365 Project 2014 – week 21

365 project - week 21

Jackson’s chameleon and a beehive This week we discovered the Jackson’s chameleon, a little reptile that looks like a cross between a dinosaur and a grumpy old man.  We spotted another beehive, and I got validation in the form of a press card. You can see all photos here. How did you spend your week?

HAWAIIAN CHILI WATER

Hawaiian Chili Water

Hawaiian Chili Water One thing you find in just about every place in the world is some kind of hot sauce ready to liven up any dish that is lacking. We have always been big fans of unique hot sauces (check out our post with jackfruit hot sauce recipe) and don’t miss a chance to […]

Travaasa Hana Maui

Tavaasa Hana Maui

Big plans We had big plans for Maui, we were going to do some hiking on the many trails available, some snorkelling and visit all sorts of sites but everything was postponed. Two days after arriving I (Nat) badly sprained my ankle and two weeks later it’s still not completely healed. Plans had to be […]

365 project week 20

Cats, rats and bananas This week we enjoyed living like locals in Hana Maui, cutting down bananas (we found a rat’s nest in one bunch), mowing the lawn, feeding the chickens, spending time at the beach and enjoying fancy drinks at the Travaasa Hana. You can see all photos here. How did you spend your week? […]

East Maui Taro Festival – TARO GNOCCHI – GOAT CHEESE CREAM SAUCE

May 19, 2014 by Tim 6 Comments

Hana’s annual East Maui Taro Festival We were lucky to have arrived on Maui the day before Hana’s annual East Maui Taro Festival, held on the baseball diamond sitting right in the middle of town. This year the weather was perfect and people came from all over the island to celebrate the mighty taro root […]

FOUR WAYS TO CONCH IN THE BAHAMAS I’m finding things very easy here, easy to think all is well with the world. The temperatures linger around +30C/86F every day for  the entire month I’m in Nassau. I get a slight “chill” when a quick storm blows through, and the mercury drops to +20C/68F. I’m basking in the […]

365 Project 2014 – week 19

365 project - week 19

Another week in paradise This week we enjoyed Roselani’s haupia ice cream (Ben & Jerry’s got nothing on this), Tim created his own version of a Hawaiian pizza (adding mango and avocado along with the ham and pineapple) and we’ve been enjoying our new routine of room turn overs and chicken care. You can see […]

From Ottawa to Maui – JACKFRUIT HOT SAUCE

May 10, 2014 by Tim 6 Comments

Here we are Well here we are, sitting in a beautiful house not too far from Haleakala on the island of Maui.  It’s 83 degrees (28C) outside and sunny but every once in a while a rain shower passes over and dampens the rainforest.  The ridiculously long and cold winter of home seems a distant […]
