Lifeventure Altai 60+15

February 21, 2012 by Nat & Tim 1 Comment

Unusual post

First and foremost we’re about food, so this is an unusual post for us. We’re not reviewers of any caliber but we love this product so much that we thought we should share the information (in future, you might see a few other posts similar to this one about products we think you may find handy when you travel).

Lifeventure Altai 60+15

When we decided to go on an extended trip we looked at all the backpacks we had amassed over the years and realized they all had flaws. The top loaders are annoying because what you want, for some unknown reason, is always at the bottom and you have to empty the whole thing to get to it. Some have too many hanging pull cords that get caught in conveyer belts at the airport and rip open like piñatas. So we set out to buy yet another backpack. This time we wanted to find the perfect one. We looked at dozens ranging in price and material and like a mirage we came upon the Lifeventure Altai 60+15.

Features

It has so many great features I don’t know where to start.
– It’s made of recycled fabrics. That right there is a plus.
– It’s i-Trak enabled. This means each bag comes with its own id number. You register it online and if your bag is ever lost it has the potential of being returned to you through the id number.
– You access the contents vertically through a big opening.
– It has a bunch of secret pockets.
– It has a handy 15L daypack. We used it to carry local condiments, olive oil, wine, honey and a bottle of holy water from the Vatican which Tim drank from a few times, not sure it had any effect.
– It’s incredibly easy to pack (as you can see in the video below) and there’s always a nook or cranny to fit those things you remember at the last minute.

Over 3 months

Tim was the one who carried the bag for over 3 months, this is what he had to say about it.
“The bag has very adjustable shoulder and hip straps that let you position the fully loaded pack properly on your back to ensure even load distribution.”

Fantastic choice

A number of compression straps both in and outside the pack enable you to really compress and secure the contents so there is little shifting and the volume is maximized. The best part about this pack other than its good looks is its low profile.  Moving down train aisles and through crowded places was just that much easier because of its sleek, less protruding design.  To add to its cool factor, you can zip away the shoulder straps and convert it into a stylish piece of luggage. Perfect as checked baggage or if you don’t want to look like a backpacker. A high viability rain cover also rolls into the bottom and is easy to deploy in a sudden storm. Lifeventure even puts a couple of neatly hidden pockets on the bag and a nice plush pocket on the top for sunglasses or iPods.
All in all the Lifeventure Altai rucksack is a fantastic choice for travellers who may go from hotel to campsite or anywhere in between.
