Venezia Unica

April 5, 2017 by Nat & Tim 4 Comments

Venezia Unica

Our second time in Venice was sort of a do-over, the first, a few years ago, was a bit of a write off with both of us quite ill and not able to leave our hotel room for very long stints.

This time we were healthy, would be staying longer and would be armed with a Venezia Unica public transport pass. This pretty well guaranteed a good time would be had.

Public transport

We were staying in Mestre, and the pass made it easy to jump on a bus right outside our B & B and zip over to Venice, a short 15-minute ride. Once there, it allowed us access on all vaporettos so over 4 days, we covered a lot of Venice and also Burano and Murano.

Validating machine

The pass is easy to use. Once you purchase it, you need to activate it on your first trip. To do this find the validating machine on the bus or outside the vaporetto station, touch the card to the front, where you see the diagram of a hand holding a card, and that’s it, the card is activated. Just do the same thing each time you get on the mode of transport of your choice and you’re good to go.

Bring a map, if you want to hit the big sights but at some point, you will certainly get lost and that’s half the fun.

I have been to Venice and travelled about by boat, but I’d like to go back and do more. The Venezia Unica sounds like a great idea – after all the best way to see Venice is from the water!

Thx for the superb pics of Venice. I would LOVE to visit! I shall have to see if I can source any good chocolate there. 🙂

We used the same pass on our visit, it made getting around very easy. Love the pictures of Venice brought back some memories and made me wonder how we missed some of the spots too. Oh well there is always next time
