These Super Foods Are the Perfect Way to Stay Healthy On Long Haul Trips

December 2, 2014 by Nat & Tim Leave a Comment

Maintaining a healthy diet

Maintaining a healthy diet is difficult enough when at home, let alone when you are at work or in school. It is especially difficult when you are traveling for long periods. Maintaining a healthy diet seems nearly impossible.

All cultures have different staples and access to different foods, but there are always super foods that can be found! Here is a list of super foods you can find anywhere in the world that will keep you healthy while travelling.

Miso and Muesli

Miso and Muesli may not be quite as well known, but once you understand what makes them great, you will make sure to have them as part of your diet while travelling abroad. Miso is a type of Japanese seasoning made from fermentation of soybeans. It is rich in vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, Muesli is a well-known German breakfast made of rolled oats, fresh or dried fruits, seeds, mixed in soy milk or yoghurt.

Cabbage and Kale

Cabbage and Kale are also considered super foods commonly found in almost all countries. They are green leafy vegetables from the Brassicaceae family. What makes them super food is the fact that they contain high levels of vitamin c, soluble fibres, and phytonutrients.

Garlic

Garlic is one of the most popular herbs commonly found in every country. For centuries, garlic is known for its medicinal properties, used to treat a wide range of diseases and health conditions. High levels of cholesterol, high blood pressure, hardening of arteries, some forms of cancer, and diabetes are just some of the many health conditions treated by the use of garlic. Thus, it is not surprising that almost every household uses this herb in the foods that they prepare.

Salmon

Known to contain high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin D and protein, Salmon can be found in almost all countries. Just like tuna and sardines, eating salmon can lower your bad cholesterol. Whether baked or grilled, this pink-coloured fish makes up a great tasting dish. You can eat a lot without guilt.

Olive Oil

Derived from the fat of pressed olives, this oil is not only best for cooking, but is also being used to enhance a person’s physical beauty. Its health benefits are extensive especially when treating heart diseases, cancer, blood pressure, arthritis, obesity and a lot more. Most of all, olive oil is known to be cholesterol free. If you are fond of a Mediterranean diet, olive oil is a major staple used.

These are just some of the super foods commonly found in all places around the world. And for someone who is travelling, it is good to know that you can stay fit and healthy if you choose to consume the right foods.

Are there any super foods you want to add to the list?
