We’re going on a diet!

August 27, 2014 by Tim 2 Comments

Moving on
Well, here we are at the end of our second “house sit” on Maui and moving on to number three. We are heading back to Kipahulu on the East side of the island, nicely snuggled into a 26 acre property completely off the grid.
With the move we are also going on a diet!
Oh sure we’ve maybe slipped on a couple of pounds from “cocktail hour(s)” and all the ono food we have been enjoying but that’s not the type of diet I’m talking about.

Kipahulu

Kipahulu Diet

Throwing away all the junk
For one month we will be without internet, that big refrigerator full of empty calories. Oh our fridge has a bunch of kale and vegetables in it but they’re usually filed away in a drawer obscured by all the other junk and leftovers on top of it.
It’s like going through my inbox in the morning throwing away all the junk mail, maybe opening one to nibble, to possibly get one morsel of brain protein.
Facebook posts scroll by so soaked in sugar they induce diabetes with link streams as endless as a bag of cheesy poofs eating up your time and allowing inactivity, tied to the screen, weighing you down. Headings promising lean information end up being slathered with fat deals like diet white bread. Yet continually, à la Costco, we increase our portion size by adding more servings of Pinterest, Twitter or Instagram to our daily diet to keep us longer at the internet pot luck. By the time we do push back from the table we are bloated with so much extra shit we didn’t want, eating too much bread before the meal, only to find we didn’t leave room on our plates for the main course.

Shed a few pounds
So with our move we will leave the devices in their cases for a month and try to shed a few pounds of internet bloat. Like any good dietician would say it’s all about a lifestyle change, not depriving yourself. Nat will schedule a few things so you don’t starve and can know we are still cooking. During that month we will concentrate on the food around us, eating from a pantry of fruit trees and local vegetables, gazing through a bug screen not at a computer screen and not miss the internet refrigerator full of empty calories and leftovers at all.

When we get back to civilization, we will share all of our adventures and many more delectable recipes with you.

We’ve been having that same ‘bloated’ feeling lately, so you’re not alone with that.

Take all the time you need. You site will still be here when you get back, and so will we 🙂
