Discover Yulair

June 13, 2014 by Nat & Tim 2 Comments

We recently had the opportunity to speak to Fred from Yulair and find out the philosophy behind his helpful website.

yulair

1. What is Yulair?

Yulair is a website where you can find the best airfares from your city to basically anywhere around the world. It started as a pretty basic blog and we now have added a lot of features, including a map and a calendar, to look for the best prices according to the places you want to go or the available time you have to travel.

It’s actually way more than just cheap plane tickets, it’s all about our travel philosophy. It’s the way we live. We are travelling and working around the world basically the whole year. And when looking for places to go we usually take the cheapest flight we can get and then leave! So it’s more about including travel into your everyday life than just finding cheap deals. You can read more about our travel philosophy here.

2. Who started Yulair and why?

I started this website in 2012 simply to share all the great deals I was finding to fly from Montréal. My job is pretty unique: I travel the world to take graffiti pictures for the website Bombing Science. So almost every month I’m leaving for a new destination. I never know where I will go, I simply look for the lowest priced ticket, book it and let the adventure happen!

So while doing this price search for myself, I noticed this information was really interesting to my friends. I was always suggesting destinations to them and they could not believe the prices were that low. So I simply built a basic blog and started to share these tips. Then word of mouth took Montreal by storm and now the website is open in Quebec City, Toronto and Vancouver.

3. How is Yulair different from other websites that advertise flights?

It’s totally the opposite of going on Kayak or Expedia. When you go to these sites you are doing a manual search to find the prices for a defined destination and dates. With Yulair it’s the other way around: we have already made all the price searches for you and you only see the best airfares from your city. It’s basically a curation of the best flights, so you don’t have to do the work of searching.

The main difference is that with Yulair you are always surprised with unexpected destinations. You receive our price alert email or you see a post in your Facebook feed and then you picture yourself going to this random destination. We always hear stories of people who took advantage of these offers to go somewhere they have never thought about before. The trick is to be open-minded, to catch the opportunities and to enjoy your trip, wherever you are in the world.

4. Where do you see Yulair in 5 years?

The website is still really new, so it’s difficult to see where it will be in 5 years from now. But definitely more features, more cities and more flight deals. My wish is to introduce our travel philosophy to many new travellers and to let them live the dream of travelling more often. Because travelling is not all about having fun abroad; it’s about learning and sharing experiences.
