365 Project – week 10

March 13, 2013 by Nat & Tim 4 Comments

The most beautiful accordion

This week I have a story for you. Last fall my sister, her husband and I were driving in the Ontario countryside. We stopped in at an antique dealer and as we entered I spotted the most beautiful accordion I’ve ever seen, a 1910 Saxony Empress with aqua and gold bellows and silver accents. I wasn’t working at the time and couldn’t rationalize spending that kind of money on something I can’t even play.

Since I can remember I’ve dreamt of playing the accordion but figured that owning one would just ruin the romanticized accordion dream I had in my head. I have not stopped thinking about that little Empress since that day last fall.

On Saturday I saw my sister, she handed me a bag, I said “What’s this? and she said it was something I wanted, that I had looked at with puppy dog eyes. I had no clue what it was. I started unwrapping it and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Inside the bubble wrap was the Empress accordion! I have been playing every night. Whether I’m good or not I couldn’t tell you.  But Tim is nice enough to cheer me on which is all I need.
